22 Feb Anxiety – hidden triggers for fear and panic attacks
Anxiety can be a crippling condition. Anxiety UK estimates that approximately 13 percent adults in Great Britain go on to develop some form of anxiety during their lifetime. The most common behavioural symptom of anxiety is avoidance, which leads to procrastination, social withdrawal and eventually to self-sabotage and broken relationships. Anxiety induced responses inhibit self-fulfillment and prevent people from living life to its fullest.
My patient Caroline healing success story – rapid recovery from 10 years of anxiety
Let me recount Caroline’s story. When Caroline approached me, she had been suffering from anxiety for over 10 years. Panic attacks were frequent occurrences in her life and her daily commute had become a dreaded ordeal. She would often faint on the way to work and find herself feeling embarrassed in public. Her anxiety affected both her professional and personal life. Eventually, she lost her job and also went through a divorce. In spite of her excellent education and qualifications, Caroline failed to sustain a job.
She initially approached me for a consultation as 10 years of weekly therapy had made no difference. Caroline wanted to find another therapist and continue to receive therapy. She was only able to manage her anxiety attacks and keep them to a minimum as long as she kept seeing her therapist weekly. However, to her surprise and relief, 15 minutes of mind reprograming with me helped her feel much better and more confident about her ability to get on with her life without anxiety.
Generally, I ask my clients to return for more focused sessions after a consultation to execute our therapy plan. But in this case, given the severity of her case, I could not bear to let her go through yet another debilitating anxiety attack. Hence, I offered her a 15 minute mind reprogramming session which worked. Caroline came to see me one week later and reported that she had got through the week without suffering a single anxiety attack.
With just 15 minutes of mind reprogramming, Caroline managed to turn around her life. With a little more help from me, she gained self-confidence, found a secure job and started to live a full and joyous life.
